From a thrift shop came a table, probably from the early Twentieth Century, which had been abused in many ways over years. The top was not usable at all as it was not only painted, but the piece had probably been left outside to collect rainwater, and the top’s appearance was worse than a neglected picnic table in an abandoned yard. But, the base was structurally sound, and the turned legs had been nicely done by the prior maker.
The base was stripped of most, but not all, of its green paint, and was completely rebuilt, and resized. It is again strong. The top is from a single plank of hard maple, resawn and bookmatched, with a modern porringer shape.
